Whether part of an official duty with St John Ambulance or as the first on the scene in an emergency, St John Ambulance Cadets have the First Aid knowledge and skills to save lives.

Unlike other youth organisations, a compulsory part of the Cadet programme continues to be annual First Aid training which equips volunteers with the skills to assist casualties and provide life-saving treatment. Cadets can also choose to undertake additional training so that they can provide First Aid at events where they are regularly confronted with minor injuries from cuts and grazes to sprains and strains. Occasionally, Cadets are faced with putting into practice training which they hope they will never have to use, providing the first treatment to casualties experiencing life-threatening conditions and injuries such as major bleeds and cardiac arrest.
